Worldview Quote- Nowhere To Go But...

George Wald (1906 - 1997) Professor of Biology at Harvard University and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine said:

The reasonable view was to believe in spontaneous generation; the only alternative, to believe in a single, primary act of supernatural creation. There is no third position. For this reason many scientists a century ago chose to regard the belief in spontaneous generation as a "philosophical necessity." It is a symptom of the philosophical poverty of our time that this necessity is no longer appreciated. Most modern biologists, having reviewed with satisfaction the downfall of the spontaneous generation hypothesis, yet unwilling to accept the alternative belief in special creation, are left with nothing. "The origin of life" Scientific American August 1954 p.46

Rhiggs,

>>Call me pedantic, but shouldn't a series of posts called "God Quote of the Day" feature quotes about God, and be posted every day?

OK pedantic, you're right, I will call it "Worldview Quote" instead. I hope that appeases the logic gods. Forgive me.

  1. Good try lil buddy but those two quotes have nothing to do with the veracity of Theory of Evolution.

Thyey are copletely philosophical by the nature of their propositions.

  2. Dan,

Spontaneous: acting out in complete surprise, typically requiring no outside influence or help.

Abiogenesis is a certainty when the right conditions are prevalent; if these conditions are not prevalent abiogenesis/life is unable to occur. Abiogenesis is not spontaneous. GOT IT?

This also relevant to the universe,

Anthropic principle is the collective name for several ways of asserting that the observations of the physical Universe must be compatible with the life observed in it.

Weak anthropic principle: "...conditions that are observed in the universe must allow the observer to exist."

So we observe the universe the way it is because if it were any different we would not exist to observe it.

" I set out to find "the mind of god" that Einstein spoke about... what I discovered was a universe without boundaries and with no beginning nor end and nothing for a creator to do." Steven Hawkins

  3. Mao Tse-Tung claimed to be inspired by Darwin. Hitler claimed to be inspired by Jesus Christ. So what?

  4. All these quotes tend to be about evolution or Darwinism.

    Is this yet another FAIL?

  7. Stormbringer,

Thanks for the encouragement. I just took a weekend off from this "circus" and I am feeling refreshed.
