California Science Center Supports Creationism!!

California Science Center, Supports Creationism On 10/9/09 I wrote an email to:

California Science Center,

Please allow the showing of "Darwin's Dilemma: The Mystery of the Cambrian Fossil Record." We were going to take our children to see it. Why would you discriminate like this? We will be blogging about this and maybe take action since this is a clear violation of the freedom of speech and equal protection. I cannot believe you would allow a small group censor you like this. Is this still America?

Are you afraid of truth? Are you afraid of a perspective other then your own? Are your viewpoints that unstable that a little movie could derail your presuppositions or worldview? What are you afraid of?

Please reconsider,
Dan

Today I found out that:

California Science Center to Pay Attorneys' Fees and Settle Open Records Lawsuit by Intelligent Design Group

The California Science Center (CSC) has agreed to settle a lawsuit with the pro-intelligent design Discovery Institute and release records that it previously sought to conceal regarding its cancellation of the screening of a pro-intelligent design film last year.

"After months of stonewalling by the Science Center, this is a huge victory for the public’s right to know what their government is doing, especially when the government engages in illegal censorship and viewpoint discrimination," said Dr. John West, Associate Director of Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture.

The Science Center continues to "deny any and all liability relating to the claims," according to the settlement agreement. However, it agreed to pay Discovery Institute’s legal fees and to surrender more than a thousand pages of documents it had been withholding since they were requested under the California Public Records Act last year.

Documents to be released relate to... (Read More)

  1. Misleading title.

Paying legal fees and surrendering documents does not equate to supporting creationism.

Have you become a sensationalist Dan? Anything to get the viewers?

  2. Supporting creationism by proxy?

  3. Evolutionism is a religion, despite how atheists scream, cry and deny. After all, it has all the earmarks. It's just a pseudo-scientific excuse to ignore God.

  4. Dan,
that ruling means nothing. The museum will never support creationism.

Now here is a court ruling you can cry about, from yesterday:

"The Institute for Creation Research — one of the biggest nonsense-peddlers in the 6000 year history of the world — was handed a nice defeat this week. That link to the National Center for Science Education (the good guys) has all the info you need, but to summarize: the ICR moved from California to Texas. In the previous state, for reasons beyond understanding, they were able to grant Master’s degrees in their graduate school. But Texas didn’t recognize their accreditation, so they filed to get it approved.

Not so surprisingly, scientists and educators rose in protest, and in 2008 the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board — the organization that grants accreditation — denied the ICR. The creationists appealed. In the meantime, they also tried to extend their ability to grant degrees temporarily while the lawsuit continued. What happened this week is that the extension as denied.

And I mean denied. Check out what the court said:

It appears that although the Court has twice required Plaintiff [the ICR] to re-plead and set forth a short and plain statement of the relief requested, Plaintiff is entirely unable to file a complaint which is not overly verbose, disjointed, incoherent, maundering, and full of irrelevant information.:

  5. "Science is not religion and it doesn't just come down to faith. Although it has many of religion's virtues, it has none of its vices. Science is based upon verifiable evidence. Religious faith not only lacks evidence, its independence from evidence is its pride and joy, shouted from the rooftops. Why else would Christians wax critical of doubting Thomas? The other apostles are held up to us as exemplars of virtue because faith was enough for them. Doubting Thomas, on the other hand, required evidence. Perhaps he should be the patron saint of scientists."
