The Skeptic

"The skeptic sees God revealed in nature and doubts Him, sees God revealed in Scripture and doubts Him, sees God revealed in the worship of countless believers and doubts Him, sees God revealed even as the object of his own doubt -- and doubts Him. The skeptic has no wish to believe, for he finds in doubt a religion absolved of any requirement to prove itself, an anti-faith whose god reveals himself nowhere -- not in nature, not in scripture, not in the worship of the mass of mankind. How clever it is of skepticism, having nothing to offer as a faith, to pose as doubt."

  1. Nice strawman your friend has set up there. The "skeptic" is only this: A person who analyzes the evidence before him and then makes up their mind about whether to accept something.

The skeptic sees God revealed in nature and doubts Him

Oh? Which "God" do we "see"? Can you go by just nature itself and guess which "God" is supposed to be real, from all the man-made "gods" out there?

    You can't.

Besides that, the evidence that we see from nature contradicts Genesis big time. Read The Creationists by Ronald Numbers. People wanted to believe the OT version of events, but exposure to the field shot that down.

sees God revealed in Scripture and doubts Him

Given the failed messianic prophecies, bad science, etc...duh!

You mean countless believers believing countless gods.
Of course you mean"your"god and not those other worshipers gods.
As far as the reference to religion, that's an old trick. It gives you a familiar base on which to build your arguments. You can't imagine somebody not believing in god so whatever they believe is their religion.
Like all things built upon a false premise any arguments that follow from it are necessarily incorrect

  4. It says:
""The skeptic sees God revealed in nature and doubts Him....."

Talk about helping oneself, not to mention the obvious presupposition.

The skeptic just sees nature, you're the one who puts God there.

  6. The skeptic sees nature revealed in nature.

sees man revealed in Scripture and doubts Him

sees money and control revealed in the worship of countless believers

sees a healthy dose of scepticism revealed even as the object of his own doubt -- and doesnt doubt it
