One Solitary Life

He was born in an obscure village
The child of a peasant woman
He grew up in another obscure village
Where He worked in a carpenter shop
Until He was thirty

He never wrote a book
He never held an office
He never went to college
He never visited a big city
He never traveled more than two hundred miles
From the place where he was born
He did none of the things
Usually associated with greatness
He had no credentials but Himself

He was only thirty three

His friends ran away
One of them denied Him
He was turned over to His enemies
And went through the mockery of a trial
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves
While dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing
The only property He had on earth

When He was dead
He was laid in a borrowed grave
Through the pity of a friend

[Twenty] centuries have come and gone
And today [He] is the central figure of the human race
And the leader of mankind's progress
All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that ever reigned put together
Have not affected the life of mankind on earth
As powerfully as that...

  1. Nice
    And more importantly true.

And even all the antichrists, the "Jesus Mythers", the Christ deniers and atheists are still obliged to count their days, months and years from the time of his birth. 2010 Anno Domini - the year of our Lord.

Now how cool is that! ;-)

  2.      Gary has unwittingly shown us a good reason to believe it to be false. A couple considerations: Dan did his previous blog post about how esteeming one day above another is against the bible. Furthermore, that dating system was forcibly imposed at sword-point by conquering christians, specifically catholics.

  3. Basically Jesus was an atheist pointing out absurdities in a theist government and got fucked over. Then more theist warped his story to include their beloved deity and created the most genocide cult in history.
Jesus would be pissed at Christians.

  4. So Gary, I assume that you're not one of those christians who keep whining about being persecuted in the west, eh?

Anyway, how does what you pointed out, the fact that the Romans adopted your belief then helped force it on Europe, provide evidence that your belief is true?

There is evidence to the contrary.

  5. And Gary is obliged to acknowledge Thor every Thursday.

    Now how cool is that!

Nah, I'm just messing with ya.

  7. So let me get this straight. You guys adhere to things a dude said two thousand years ago (if we are to believe the bible) who was uneducated, heard voices, and never traveled more then 200 miles from home? Add on to that the fact that he never gave any evidence at all for his wild claims and that there is still no evidence to support it. What if I heard a voice claiming to be God telling me to save the people of the land by getting myself killed? What advice would you offer then?

What was David Koresh told when he asked that question?

  9. Justin,

    >>What if I heard a voice claiming to be God telling me to save the people of the land by getting myself killed? What advice would you offer then?

I am sure you would concede that an omniscient, omnipotent being could reveal things to us, such that we can be certain of them.

  10. Yup! If God speaks to you, do what he says. You can be certain that he's God, and that whatever he tells you to do is good.

This would be priceless if it weren't so scary...

  11. So what if Justin had a mental condition and used Dan 'words of wisdom [choke, spit!] and committed suicide, could Dan be held accountable?

  12. Ant,

    >>could Dan be held accountable?

If I did not try and warn him of his deserved fate? I would think so (Ezekiel 3:20) To man? Wouldn't matter.

BTW Ant, do you believe you're a good person...?

    :7)

  13. So... you don't care if someone kills themself based on you?

    nice...

    >>BTW Ant, do you believe you're a good person...?

Yes, I try to the best of my knowledge, foresight and ablity.

Now are you going to ask me how I know what good is?...

  14. Ant,

    >>So... you don't care if someone kills themself based on you?

    >>nice...

No, I certainly do care but, because of free will, ultimately I have no control over how someone acts.

BTW Ant, do you believe you're a good person...?

    >>Yes, I try to the best of my knowledge, foresight and ablity.

    >>Now are you going to ask me how I know what good is?...

No, since you're delusional, and 'you have a reason not to think your faculties are reliable'. I was going to witness to you.
